Driskill Hotel

You are here Home  > Hotels and Inns >  Driskill Hotel

At this historic hotel, there is a portrait of a little girl holding some flowers on the third floor that causes a bit of a buzz — literally as well as figuratively. Folks say that when they look at it, they get a curious tingling sensation of their heels being lifted into the air. After that, their equlibrium is off for several hours. Witnesses at this location also report hearing sounds of people upstairs when no one is there, and feeling something they can’t see touching their face and arms. Also, apparitions have been seen sitting in chairs or at windows.

    1. I have lived in Austin for over 20 years. I have always known of the hotel to be haunted. I was friends with a man who worked there. He said he never believed in ghosts until working at the Driskoll. There is a storage closet that he spoke of where he would hear noises and the light would come on all of the time. He would shut it off and it would come back on.

The main story I had always heard of was a little girl who passed away after falling down the stairs. My family had brunch at the 1890 Cafe, there in the hotel, a few years ago. We asked about the ghosts and we were provided with a sheet of paper with more detail on the ghosts that roam the hotel. I wish I still had it; I would give you more detail but cannot remember much else.

I have spent the night in the hotel once, attended one event here and have eaten, been to the bar or walked through the hotel on many occassions. I have never experienced a thing. It is a beautiful place. I encourage you check it out. There is one specific room that is supposedly haunted by a woman who died on her wedding night. The 8th floor rings a bell…for those of you who are seeking out this experience. Me, not so much.

    2. I was there for my moms graduation and I herd a little girls voice at 6:45 p.m. Then I saw a figure sitting were I was sitting at 5:30 and after I went to the girls bathroom I looked in the mirror and I saw a little girl about my age. Then I washed my face then I looked at the mirror and it was gone. I told my mother and she was feritend

    3. I was at this hotel about a month ago. I heard it was haunted and wanted to see for myself. I didn’t see or feel anything weird. I did ask the front desk about the stories however. They are more than open about what happened here. It’s the fifth floor room 512 I believe where the suicide bride incident took place and there was a second similar incident on the fourth floor I believe. The little girl fell down the stairs that are straight ahead as you walk in. I saw her portrait on the fifth floor also but felt nothing out of the ordinary. Of the staff that works there, only one other person other than the front counter clerks admitted to having seen something to me. He said that on that same fifth floor, he once saw an older gentleman opening the doors that are as you turn right, into the hallway headed toward the rooms. He claims to have seen the gentleman do this a couple of times. The gentleman wore clothing similar to his own except of a different color and the gentleman wore a beard also. This is how he knew it wasn’t someone from his time. Supposedly they have to be clean shaven and their clothing is now Grey I believe.

I have seen a figure on the balcony over 6th street. I was photographing a friend late one night and when I raised the camera to frame the shot, I saw the figure of someone standing beside him.
