Des Chute Historical Museum

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Des Chute Historical Museum

This historic museum was formerly a schoolhouse, and is believed to be haunted by the apparition of a man who passed away back in 1914. Known to staff as ‘George’, he is responsible for moving objects around the building or making them disappear completely. Some also claim to have seen a misty white apparition drifting through the hallway after hours.

    • That is true correct the spelling. Also I have been there. My dad works there and I have seen a misty figure in doorways or windows but befor I could get a closer look it vanishes. I check the hallway and there is nothing. It is very creepy.

  1. The spelling IS incorrect. That being said, I have spent a significant number of hours at the museum after closing. My mother used to clean the building in the evenings. I dare say “George” is not the only spirit who visits – considering the amount of personal items stored within that building. Several different energies can be felt in various rooms. The upstairs (3rd floor) appears to be the most active though. I always hated cleaning alone in any of the rooms, especially after dark!

  2. Actually the spelling is correct, it is spelled like that everywhere, just look at the sign in the picture. It is spelled like that on maps too.

    • As a long-time resident of Bend, it most certainly is not spelled Des Chute. It is spelled Deschutes. I’ve never seen it spelled Des Chute in modern times. In very early maps, it might have been Des Chute, but nothing contemporary. Please, please correct the spelling.

    • Deschutes is spelled in one word, not 2, I’ve been a long time resident of Oregon and I’ve been to Bend many times, its always been Deschutes

I have investigated there and brought my spirit box and i gotta say i got somthing good. I was upstairs on the second floor and in the section where they have the beauty pageant area from back in the day, i got a voice it said “memories” in a womans voice. So i asked what that ment, and i looked around and found a book in the case where the beauty pagent was and the book its self had the word “memories” on it. Along with a cold chill right afterwards best experience i had there! 😀

  4. Deees CHutes are made for walking, and thats just what theyll do. One of these days Des Chutes is going to walk all over you. Wrong! Deschutes is correct. Ive been here a decade, living pretty deep in the woods since 2015. There are feral people out there who will make you vanish, I can show you some stuff, both in Deschutes and Klamath national forests. The most bizarre experiences of my life have been out here, No matter how far out there you are, always assume there’s somebody watching, that you don’t know is there. Camped in one spot oustide sunriver in 2018, found a dead body 200 feet up the road. Go home or never be found!
