The historic inn was built in 1884, and has been restored and renovated to its former glory by the current inn owners. Guests and staff alike have reported paranormal activity in the inn, including lights turning on and off, strange knocking noises and furniture that moves around by itself. Guests staying in the inn have reported a bossy spirit known as Cora, the wife of a former inn keeper. She has been seen wandering through various parts of the old building, and taps and people around in a disapproving manner. The shadowy apparition of a man has been seen floating around the corridors of the building is believed to be a former inn keeper, the husband of Cora, and is known to staff as John. The third ghost has mainly been seen in Room #48, and is known as Herschel. He appears to staff as a glowing apparition, and is known to mess up rooms and to rearrange furniture and the luggage of guests. Visitors have also seen Herschel sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch of Deerfield Inn.
