As many as 20 ghosts are said to haunt this 1924 hotel building. The most well-known is that of Dr. William Jacocks, a frequent guest who made the hotel his home after he retired — and still resides here, folks say. He lived in Room 256, and he makes himself known by locking guests out of his room. He rumples the bath mat and pulls the shower curtain, and brings with him the scent of flowers. The apparition of a well-dressed man has been seen in the hallways, wearing a hat and long blue coat. He tries the doors along the hallways. During removations in 1990, Dr. Jacocks’ room became portions of 4 other rooms, and electronic doors have been installed to prevent the ghost’s locking prank. However, he still manages to jam the locks at times.

I stayed at the Carolina Inn and I can assure you that no “ghoulies, ghosties, nor long leggity beasties” disturbed me in any way, shape, or form.

    Sorry to disappoint anyone.

  2. We stayed at this place and nothing out of the ordinary happened. Perhaps I didn’t see anything was due to I was very tired and I slept through the night. We awoke and everything was still in its place, nothing was locked, opened and the only time the shower curtain was pulled open, was when I pulled it open to tickle my girlfriend as she showered! (Yeah baby, yeah!!) It was a nice place to stay. Come check it out! North Carolina is a beautiful state!
