  1. Boone Tavern wasn’t built until after 1900. During the Civil War there was almost nothing in what is now Berea. It was a rural area with farms and not even a post office. Fee and others had tried to start a school on land donated by Cassius Clay, but they had been run out of the area. They only had two or three small buildings. The name of the town came from the name of the school, after the war.

    • Absolutely correct Linda but wrong at the same time there was a settlement of people during 1897 there’s even a old old tombstone that proves it near the old Grocery store near the fair grounds or tractor pull grounds whatever they call it these days! In fact that’s one of Ky’s oldest counties unofficially of-course bc of the lack of data

  2. I can say with certainty that there is a basement in the building. it was built after the civil war though as a way for visitors of the college to have a place to stay. since the town was built around the college there were no other hotels. Everyone I have known that has worked there refused to even enter the basement if avoidable.

  3. I visited this hotel twice in the last few weeks, both time for meals in the dining room. One of the wait staff told me that he is afraid to go into the basement because of some things he witnessed. He told me they keep the linens stored down there and once when he was there, three linen napkins “were pulled” out of the pile and dropped on the floor. He also claimed there is a rocking chair that sits down there and was moving back and forth. No fan was there. This guy also told me that many of the staff have seen stuff and others haven’t. Allegedly, room 301 is also haunted.

I read that room 301 is said to be haunted, so I followed the sign that pointed to room 301 only to find that there IS NO room 301! What the heck? There was a sign with an arrow pointing to 301. At the place where it should be there us a stairway exit.

  5. I live less then 1/4 of a mile from boon tavern and I can say there are something real funny going on in my yard ones a mouth my dogs go crazy lts like its a pass through or something my doors will come unlocked my dogs will not come in and two rooms in my house guess become stuck like the room upstairs they talk to people others cant see believe they live in walls or hiding in house and the room in basement they will get doing one thing and want stop my first friend came over and stay in room for 4 months playing a busted up phone that you can even see the other is here now and she has been here 5 moths doing nails and has never even had her nails done and from the time she wakes up she is doing her nail and she has yet been able to complete both hands It affects us all different I feel its something to do with the boon tavern like the road behind the college you cant even see people waling when driving at night and it has lights

  6. I am a student of Berea College and I have been in the tavern several times, in the basement, lobby area, and downstairs in the basement. The basement is really cool. I wouldn’t say it’s haunted in my experience.
