Bingham Waggoner Estate

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Bingham Waggoner Estate

At the 1852 Bingham Waggoner Estate, owned by Civil War artist George Caleb Bingham, visitors can get a look at its original paintings and furnishings–and, if they’re lucky, a ghost. A mysterious ghost bride has appeared around or on the stairs, and orbs show up in photographs taken here.

  1. I’ve had paranormal encounters their. I was scratched my first time and second time one of my friends was slammed to the ground and choked another was possessed twice.

Cole…I remember that incident very well. It took several of us to wrestle your young friend
out of the clutches of that shadowy figure which suddenly appeared from the dry goods
pantry! I’ll never go in that house alone!

  2. I have felt the opposite than others. I love the home! When I visit it feels like I have always lived there, like I am finally home. I have a peaceful feeling and can just see myself living there, entertaining, laughing, enjoying family and friends there. Love the grounds too. But…one bedroom I feel a woman still in there. I don’t bother her, I look in her room then back out and leave her alone. She usually is looking out the window or one time she was laying in the bed.

  3. I have been at the estate dozens of times since I’ve been little. My grandma volunteers and gives tours there. I’ve worked in the tea room on the upper floor, been to MANY events there, and even got married there.

Other than a few creepy vibes, the only strange thing that ever happened was one winter when we were decorating the kitchen for Christmas I was going into the old ice box, and I heard a strange whispery noise really close to my ear and the door to the ice box closed with me inside! I wasn’t scared in the moment because I’ve had so many paranormal experiences in my life…I didn’t get really creeped out until I realized that I was the only one in the kitchen area and everyone else was upstairs or in the ladies parlor. I was probably 14 at the time.

I wouldn’t say this place was super-haunted though. I’ve never actually seen anything there, and I have other places…with so much time spent there I would think I would have seen something.

  4. This place is haunted. I had taken the tour with my mother and my then toddler. When walking in to the dinning room, my toddler began almost hyperventilating, she was grabbing her throat and the cried in between very grasping breaths. I left the room, she was dazed and acted very scared. We went up on the second floor as I was coming down the steps she and my mom were right behind me. I felt someone grab me forcefully on my shirt, I assumed it was her or my mom. When I turned to look they had stopped near the top. My toddler had not wanted to come any farther down. I wanted to stay but figured we had experienced more than enough. Over the years, this was almost 5 or so yes ago, many friends have sharedone their experiences with the house. I have no doubt that the house is haunted.
