Baker Hotel

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Baker Hotel

Two grisly legends are told to ghost hunters at this site. One is of a man who was killed after being caught in an elevator door. The second is about a woman, a mistress, so distraught over her unrequited love that she killed herself in the hotel. Both spirits are said to remain in the building and have manifested as orbs, apparitions, disembodied sounds, and phantom aromas.

    1. I was on the balcony and I was looking over the pool and I saw women standing on the balcony with me and then she jumped and she disappears

    2. My kids and my friend was walking around they stuck their hand in the open parts of the building there were cold spots when it was hot outside.
I will be siting in the car and i would look up their is someone looking out the window.

      • I had the same thing happen on the front porch of the building. It was August and well over 100 degrees, and as I was looking into one of the holes in the front door a huge gush of cold air came out so hard that it literally make me stumble backward.

      • You can’t I’ve tried. They say they are refurbishing it now and no one is allowed except construction workers. Its been bought to reopen. At least that’s what the towns office tells me.

wonderful old building. lovely inside. went all the way up! never saw or heard anything creepy. it’s an old building. with many broken windows. you must take into account wind gusts, especially on the upper floors pushing things around as well as barometric pressure and temperature changes on this large old structure. from what i know and have seen from some human beings, they can make themselves believe anything. did people die in this building under whatever circumstances? i am sure. humans die everywhere under terrible circumstances. i can tell you about many places i’ve been where if there were ghosts, they would have been there. i’ve yet to see one yet. (old warships, shafter cemetery, etc.) NADA!

          • You crawl over the gate and walk under the little tunnel bridge thing near the back and there is a window about 10 feet off the ground and you can grab the ledge and make your way in through a little opening in a piece of plywood they have over the window. Or you if small enough you can get in through the gates in the back that they have over the doors.

    4. There is nothing scary inside the hotel. A bunch of trash that construction workers have left behind or homeless people that have stayed there left. The only thing scary about that place is the homeless people that might be in there to stay out of the cold and rain. There are spots where you can see that someone had little fires burning.

    5. My wife and I have been there. I don’t belive in ghost but went with her on a tour, ( outside only) you can go in legally. She did take several photos of the outside and when we went back and looked it did look like a woman was in one of the windows. She has the image saved and I will try to post it. The lady giving the tour said she was more scared of the crazy water hotel, also in the tour, but no one ever mentions it. She said she was almost pushed down an elevator shaft by “something” and refuses to ever go back in.

    6. Oops. I accidentally added my post to the “Baker Mansion…” Oh well, suffice to say, this building is awesome, haunted or not, and I still love the place, even if my last visit didn’t end as well as I’d have hoped (yes, BUSTED). It’s very difficult to claim innocence when the local PD finds you just outside the cloud room, hiding behind a door. Fortunately, the officers were kind enough to not arrest us, since we were obviously there to photograph (rather than to scrap or vandalize), but the ticket alone cost more than $400.00 dollars (plus 50.00 extra for a “deferred adjudication,” which I opted to add on to my already hefty fine. Needless to say, you won’t be seeing me within Palo Pinto County’s jurisdiction for another 5 or 6 months…). And there’s the extra cost of wounded pride, but that seemed insignificant after seeing the monetary damage. I just thought I’d throw the info out there for anyone curious of what happens when caught in places like these. Don’t get me wrong, the cops can still arrest you if they choose to do so, it’s just not as likely if you don’t appear to be there for anything other than “benign” reasons (like photography, ghost hunting, or any activity that doesn’t involve crow bars or bottles of aerosol paint cans). For those interested, this unfortunate incident took place in the late summer of 2015. My most expensive photo shoot to date, and still no ghosts to be seen…

    7. My brother and I were passing through Mineral Wells and we decided to stop and check this place out.As we pulled into the lot, a cop car pulled up and asked what we were doing there. I told him we were there to just take photos of the place, they let us do just that (as long as we didn’t enter the building.) It looks creepy albeit it is an old, vacant building. I didn’t hear or see anything out of the ordinary, just whistling sounds coming from the broken windows.Regardless,it would have been nice if we could have gone inside. However, we pass through there from time to time,we will end up going in there…eventually.

    8. I have been in the building (legally). Several years ago, they had a fundraiser for the remodeling fund. I experienced several “odd” things (cold spots, apparitions/orbs in pictures, perfume and tobacco smell). I wouldn’t call it scary but it was definitely interesting and there is definitely quite a bit of activity in the building. I would love to go back, but now, as far as I know, there is no legal way to go in the hotel.

    9. While walking around the perimeter of the hotel my wife and I along witb several other witnesses saw dolls in some of the windows. There seemed to be hundreds of them.

    10. it is still under construction, sadly. I have been through and no, I haven’t seen any ghost or thought I was being watched. lots of graffiti have happened, but it will be a lovely hotel when it’s finished 🙂
