Reportedly a former almshouse, this building was purchased for use as a haunted attraction. It was reportedly haunted by many ghosts, including Elva SKinner, a woman who died in a fire in the former almshouse. The house has been featured in several books and TV shows including Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures. In 2013, the site was said to have suffered a violent windstorm and was damaged extensively, but reports are now that the home has been purchased by a new family and renovations have been undertaken.

    1. i was with friends and stayed up stairs and heard a little girl humming and singing she was slamming doors and she was trying to get me to play with her

    2. We were filming on-location at the Ashmore Estates and We encountered numerous things. We heard a voice come out of thin air answer my question. I asked “Are we the only ones here” and we heard a woman’s voice answer “Nope” Then we snapped a picture of me walking down the hall, there was a black mass pouring out of the doorway, and if you look closely, you can see eyes within the mass. Definitely haunted

      • Just not to long ago they were having an auction! Therefore you aren’t completely right! Just saying I live really close and I went to it!

    3. I can assure you that the new owner (Robbin) has been working hard and this building is NOT beyond repair. It is in fast recovery and open for investigation! Email at robbin@mwii.net, or call 217-899-9978 to book. Our group (Midwest Ghost Society) went there before Robbin purchased it and it was extremely active but in bad shape…in the few months he’s had it he’s made it a lot better already and we’ll be booking there again soon I’m sure! =)

I went there a few months ago with my ghost hunting group. Illinois society of paranormal activity. (ISPA) and we had tons and tons of activity! By far haunted and such a beautiful place. I hope to visit again before they take it down!

right as i stepped inside the building i felt all these emotions hit me and i broke into tears from feeling all these emotions and i am not scared of the place

    6. A group of friends and I went for an overnight tour in 2018 and it’s absolutely…. well, a very active place. I had read and read about it but it did no justice to what we were going to experience on this adventure. On the 3rd floor it seemed like we were constantly hearing footsteps behind us even though knowingly only 3 of us were up there. Also we were all sitting in different rooms on the 2nd floor just listening to a voice box and it repeatedly kept saying “my room” and “boots”, later realizing a man had prospered in the room I had been sitting in and I was the ONLY person in the building wearing boots! The boiler room was also a very active place! Many many experiences happened during our visit but I won’t spoil it for you but if you ever get the chance to visit yourself it is hands down amazing if you’re in for the experience of a lifetime and have that kind of appreciation for the history. It was a MUST on my bucket list and I’m definitely planning on visiting again! Also the family who now owns it is knowledgeable on the history and have quite a few experiences to share themselves! Enjoy!
